There are few better plans in Mallorca than a day on a boat: the sun, the turquoise water, a quiet cove to drop anchor and swim in. And come mid-morning, when hunger kicks in, the same question always pops up: what do we eat? Because a great day at sea can be spoiled if the food doesn’t hold up — and made perfect if you’ve thought it through. Here’s what to bring on board to eat well without any hassle, and how we sort it out so all you have to do is enjoy.
Eating on board has its own rules
On a boat there’s no kitchen, space is tight and everything moves. The sun beats down, the fridge is small, and nobody wants to juggle plates and cutlery on a rolling deck. That’s why food for a boat isn’t the same as food at home: it has to be fresh, hold up well, be easy to eat and give you no trouble. The good news? With a little planning, you eat just as well at sea as on land — if not better.
What works (and what doesn't) on a boat
The golden rule: fresh, cold and easy to grab with your hands. What goes down best on board:
- Wraps with chicken or veggies — eaten standing up, no crumbs.
- Chicken goujons and little bites you can nibble without breaking up the swim.
- Sandwiches and mini rolls, the classic that never fails.
- Pasta salads, which hold up well and fill you up without weighing you down.
- Guacamole with corn tortilla chips to share while you chat.
- Cut fruit and fruit skewers, the most welcome thing in the heat.
- And in general, fresh things that slip down easily after a dip.
What to avoid? Runny sauces that spill with the swell, anything that needs heating, and set-ups that call for a tablecloth, plate and cutlery. If you want more ideas along these lines, our guide to cold food for events is full of options that work just as well at sea.
With clients or with friends: adapt the plan
A company outing isn’t the same as a day with your mates. If you’re bringing clients on board, the food is part of the impression you make: mind the presentation and keep options for every diet, so nobody’s left staring at the table. If it’s a birthday, a hen or stag do, or simply a day with friends, go for plenty of variety to share and pick at throughout the day. Just tell us what your day looks like and we’ll shape it around you.
Logistics sorted: we bring it to the marina
Here’s the easy part. Instead of spending the night before chopping fruit and rolling wraps, we prepare it and bring it to the marina at your departure time — ready to board, in formats that take up little room and fit easily in the on-board fridge. No cooking, no waiters, no setting up: you open it and dig in. All we need is a little notice (48 hours and we’re more than covered) so everything arrives fresh and right on your departure time.
Leave it to us
